Features

Single integrated connection

Self-contained locking component

  • The locking device is already part of the pedicular screw or hook. Usage is therefore simplified.
  • This technical specificity makes it also possible to decrease the mechanical pitch of the locking device (0.5mm), thus considerably increasing surface contact between the threads and ensuring long term reliability of the tightening.

Polyaxial locking

  • The ball located inside the locking device allows a 20°angulation in all directions.
  • This capacity allows it to adapt to and among the various pedicular sight angulations and to direct the flattened part of the rod according to the desired lordosis plane.

Postero-lateral loading

  • Postero-lateral loading facilitates the placing of the LDR flattened rod, whatever pedicular screw angulations and whatever difficulty due to muscular masses.
  • The opening of the screw heads can be positioned both laterally or medially.
  • Loading the rod on to the Easyspine® screws or hooks is still easy, even when the difference in pedicular screw angulation, one in relation to the other, is significant in opposition to the traditional osteosynthesis system.

Mechanical optimization

Connection reliability is ensured by contact between two flat surfaces, which is in opposition with the traditional systems, resting on one point or a line of points.

Bone anchorage

  • The unique design of the osseous thread of the pedicular screw associates a cone-shaped core and a straight thread. It was especially designed to facilitate the penetration of the screw into the pedicle, thus ensuring an optimum anchorage over the whole length of the screw as well as allowing for height adjustment.

Decrease in constraints

  • The final tightening torque is 30 or 50% below the current standards, thus minimizing the stress imposed on the implant.
  • Implant manufacturing processes and notably, those of the pedicular screws, were designed in order to reduce machining constraints and increasing their reliability.

The mechanical pitch of the locking device is 0.5 mm which considerably increases the contact surface between threads and optimizes the quality and reliability of tightening

Mechanical tests

Mechanical tests by an independent laboratory highlighted the following factors:

  • A 1400 N slippage resistance was obtained by using a tightening torque 30 to 50% below current standards.
  • No change in tightening was observed after 10 million cycles during a 3Hz frequency bending test with a 750 N load.
  • After this test, a slippage test of the same assembly showed a slippage resistance superior to the one initially measured.

Flatten Rod

The LDR flattened rod allows a considerable increase in the mechanical reliability of tightening by increasing the contact surface between the locking device and the rod. The rod diameter remains constant and rigidity depends only on the variations in height of the flattened segment.

Variable rigidity and constant diameter

  • 3 rods of different heights and constant diameter (6mm) are available in order to obtain different assembly rigidities in the lordosis plane.
  • Basic implants (screws or hooks) remain the same, whatever stiffness has been chosen.
  • The choice can therefore be made during surgery, once the basic implants are already in place.

Protection stop

  • At each end of the rod, there is a 2mm stop to avoid any over shooting of the rod at the top of the assembly. This protects the inferior articular facet joint of the vertebrae above, the upper limit of the assembly thus becoming the pedicular screw.

Rotation control

  • The flattened segment of the LDR rod prevents any rotation of the rod within the implant during the distraction and compression operations as well as after the final locking.

Restoration of lordosis

  • The angle of the flattened segment of the LDR rod defines the profile of lordosis for the assembly. Thus, all reduction operations are guided in parallel with this particular profile.

Sterility and traceability

Optimised management

  • Sterile packaging of implants allows their immediate usage upon delivery, without any additional processing. Daily management of implants is therefore tremendously simplified.

  • All Easyspine® implants are delivered in sterile packaging, under double blister pack with sterilisation control stickers.

Absolute Traceability

  • This type of packaging ensures absolute traceability right up to the patient. Each implant is therefore traceable right from the initial manufacturing to the final implantation.
